Terms of Use

The deal, in plain language.

Falloff is a pre-light planning calculator. These terms cover your license to use the app, how purchases work, and one thing we care about deeply: Falloff gives estimates, and lighting decisions on set are yours.

Effective 2026-08-10 · Falloff by GripTools (iOS · falloff.griptools.kr)

Who we are

Falloff is published by GripTools, a sole proprietorship based in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Contact: philip@gripdude.net. By downloading or using Falloff, you agree to these terms and to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement; where the two conflict, these terms apply to the extent Apple's agreement allows.

Your license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Falloff on Apple devices you own or control, for planning lighting setups — professional use on productions is exactly what it's for. You may not resell the app, redistribute its fixture database as a dataset, or attempt to extract, decompile, or misrepresent its calculations as a competing service.

Estimates, not measurements

Every photometric number in Falloff is an estimate derived from manufacturer-published data. Numbers marked as estimates are exactly that. Real output varies with unit condition, voltage, modifiers, tolerances, and age. Falloff is a planning aid:

  • Always verify exposure with a meter or camera on set.
  • Electrical figures (draw, circuits, runtime) are informational. Rigging and electrical decisions must be made by qualified crew following local regulations.
  • Safety-related information in the app is never a substitute for professional judgment on set.

We work hard to make the estimates honest — including telling you when the app doesn't know something — but we do not warrant that any figure matches what your fixture outputs.

Purchases

Falloff's core database and safety information are free. Paid features are sold through Apple's App Store, and Apple processes all payments.

  • One-time unlock (Falloff Pro). A non-consumable purchase tied to your Apple Account. Restore it any time via "Restore Purchases".
  • Auto-renewable subscription (if offered). Price and period are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it any time in your App Store account settings. Any unused portion of a free trial, if offered, is forfeited when you purchase.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store policy; we cannot issue them directly.

Access codes

We sometimes issue personal access codes (for example, lifetime access for beta testers and ambassadors). Codes are personal, non-transferable, and have no cash value. A code that is shared publicly, resold, or abused may be deactivated; if yours stops working and you believe that's a mistake, email us and we'll re-issue it. Access granted by a code lives on the device where it was redeemed — on a new device, simply redeem again.

Beta versions

TestFlight builds are pre-release software: features may change, break, or be removed, and beta entitlements (such as everything being unlocked) end when the beta ends. Feedback you send us through the in-app report button may be used to improve the product.

What we own

The app, its design, its rendering engine, and its curated database are ours or our licensors'. Setup cards you export are yours — share them freely, watermark and all.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Falloff is provided "as is", and GripTools is not liable for indirect or consequential damages — including production delays, reshoots, or equipment decisions — arising from use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of your place of residence. Our total liability is capped at the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the effective date above before the change applies. Material changes to paid features will be announced in the app. This URL always holds the current terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence remain unaffected.
